How is this so hard to understand? I run a private campground. I have a set of rules to ensure everyone stays safe and initially I didn’t think I even needed to include #3 because it’s so obvious but apparently it isn’t because here we are. Again. Last time I posted I told you about the gray world and people don’t screw that up because it’s pretty apparent that shit has gone sideways once they’re inside it. If you’re new here and wondering why I’m so pissed off about the lights, you should really start at the beginning and see for yourself all the problems they’ve caused. Maybe you can tell me what I’m doing wrong because clearly people aren’t capable of figuring this one out. Okay, the lights aside, I’ve mostly been focused on how to deal with the man with no shadow. We’ve been taking some precautions. Bryan has set the dogs to patrolling the campground. I wanted to have them guard the grove itself, but Bryan refused as he didn’t want them getting too close. We don’t know his capabilities. He didn’t want to endanger his animals. Our hope was that by making the rest of the campground hostile to his presence, we could trap him inside his grove anyway and limit his access to new servants. I’ve also instructed my winter staff to work in pairs - which is typical procedure for a bad year - but I’ve also started rotating the pairs so that two people aren’t together for too long. Finally, anyone that enters the campground is accompanied by a staff member. I have to resolve this before we reopen in March. I’ve been looking through our records to see if there’s anything that can be gleaned about the man with no shadow. There’s not much. His actions are less overt than our more violent inhabitants and he is careful to avoid my staff. I did find one thing of interest, however, in my mother’s journals. She didn’t write a lot down. Tidbits of things she found important to remember in a disjointed notation that surely made sense to her. I’ve been through them a handful of times now and the pain of seeing her handwriting is not worth the information I’ve gained. This time, however, I knew what I was looking for. I found it in three lines. “The man with no shadow” followed by two dates. They were meaningless for me, but I shared them with the old sheriff. He noticed something interesting about one of them. It was the first year that the new sheriff ran against him for office. He didn’t win, not until the old sheriff vanished, but he ran every year after that. It struck the old sheriff as odd at the time, because he’d never really thought that the current sheriff was someone that would ever want the job. He’s going to look into what was happening in the area around the time of the other date. As I feared, the man with no shadow appears to have been planning for this for some time now. And he has certainly not been idle after the loss of the current sheriff as one of his pawns. We had a delivery at the campground earlier this week. Our old propane tank was dangerously rusted and I’d ordered a replacement. This is not a propane tank you can pick up at your local hardware store to fuel your grill. It is large. They sent it via a truck. My cousin radioed me that the truck was here, sitting next to where the tank was to go, but the driver was nowhere to be seen. None of my staff knew where he was or how long he’d been missing. I got my jacket and told my staff I was going to check the glade. The clearing with the stones covered in moss, where the man with no shadow resides. It didn’t have to be said why. One of them softly told me to be careful. I’m not sure which it was. The man with no shadow was waiting for me. He stood tall and willowy next to the missing truck driver, his red hair brilliant in the sunlight. His arm was draped over the man’s shoulder, as if they were friends, but his nails dug into flesh and a thin bead of blood trickled down the truck driver’s chest. He was stripped to the waist, his skin reddened from the cold in the early stages of frostbite. Five holes bled slowly on his chest, clogged with congealing blood, the black-crimson of a deep wound. They were arrayed around where his heart was, like fingers had been thrust through his flesh. From the dried blood on the man with no shadow’s fingers I have to believe that was exactly what happened. “Speak sparingly, ” I hissed, “or I walk away. ” A thin smile of acknowledgement. Amusement that I would abandon his captive to save myself. “How did you get him here? ” I asked. “The lights can be… coerced, sometimes, ” he replied carefully. Seriously, how fucking hard is it to not follow the lights? You shouldn’t even have to read the rules to realize this. It was a whole thing in Lord of the Rings and everyone has watched Lord of the Rings, right? “You don’t release people without asking for something in return, ” I said grimly. “Name your price. ” “Oh no, you can have this one for free, ” he purred. He shoved the truck driver forwards. The man stumbled across the boundary of the man with no shadow’s lair. His eyes cleared and he looked about him, startled, bewildered by his surroundings. He stared down at the wounds on his chest. “You don’t let go of anyone, ” I said, gently pulling the truck driver to stand behind me. He moved as I directed, made passive by his disorientation. “I do when they’re useless. And this one is no good anymore, on account of the mark I put on him. You know. The one that taints his soul with my presence. Gives him my scent. ” He turned abruptly, laughing, and walked off. I grabbed the truck driver’s arm and drew him away from the glade, back towards the house. He needed to get into some warmth, I reasoned. It wasn’t bitterly cold, not like some other winters we’ve had, but he’d clearly been outside for too long. I could figure out what the man with no shadow had done - and why - later. He tried to ask me what was happening and who that man was, but I told him I’d explain it once we were inside. We didn’t make it to the house before I heard the baying of the hounds. When I hired Bryan his dogs came with him. It was simply understood that they were part of him, that he wasn’t whole unless they were nearby. I remember growing up with him, how he was a quiet, reclusive boy and how the dogs would wait outside the school. At recess he would play chase with them, far from the other children, eschewing human company. He rarely spoke. I never paid him much attention, not until he showed up at my campsite inquiring about a job opening. His dogs sat behind him during the interview, staring at me and wagging their tails. They should have died of old age long ago but I think we all know they are not normal dogs. They remind me of wolfhounds, tall and shaggy, but they are muscular instead of lean and there is a sharpness to their muzzles that is more akin to a wolf. Their coats are gray-black, the color of soot, deepening to charcoal in dim light. Their voices can be heard across the entire campground. Now they echoed from all around us. The truck driver paused uneasily and I hesitated, my mind screaming at me the last thing the man with no shadow had said. The marks on the driver’s chest. His scent. We were halfway between the grove and the house. There was no other shelter easily available. I tightened my grip on the man’s arm, digging my nails into his frozen flesh, and I yelled at him to run. It was hard to get him to move. I pulled him along, breaking into a sprint myself, and after a handful of stumbling, reluctant steps he fell into a trot. Not fast enough. Not nearly fast enough. “The dogs! ” I yelled at him. “They’ll kill you! ” That got him moving. Some primal instinct finally shook itself free in his mind and he began to outpace me, drawing ahead with his longer legs and my lungs burned as I sucked in cold air in an effort to keep pace. I caught a glimpse of a large shape in my peripheral vision - black-gray - and then it slammed into my side. The hound threw itself between us. I was knocked bodily aside by a mass of fur and muscle and then the dog was over top of me, legs splayed, its head lowered and a growl rumbling deep in its chest. I clawed at its fur, searching for a collar, but it would not be moved. It had to protect me from the man with no shadow, after all. I opened the channel on my radio. “Bryan! ” I screamed. “Recall your dogs! Recall your FUCKING dogs! ” The truck driver had managed to stay on his feet and he was continuing to run, across the stretch of grass that led to the house. Another black-gray shape peeled out of the forest, another came from the other direction, and then the entire pack was bearing down on him and I knew it was too late. They surrounded him, running to either side, snapping ivory teeth at his legs. Searching for an opening. I could only watch in horror, helpless to stop this, my radio clutched uselessly between my fingers. One lunged for his leg. The man leapt away, twisting his body out its reach - and putting his back to another one of the dogs. It stretched out its head and its jaws clamped down on his calf. It spun its hindquarters, bracing against the ground, halting its forward momentum in one fluid gesture and the man’s leg bent sharply sideways at the knee. His body jerked like a whip cracking, tumbling towards the ground, and then he vanished from sight under a mass of bodies. His screams did not last long. At least they gave him the mercy of a quick death by tearing out his throat first. Only then did the dog standing over me move. I walked slowly towards where the rest of the pack were still dismembering the poor man’s remains. On the radio, Bryan was frantically calling my name. I told him it was okay, I was safe, but I needed him to meet me at my house. I covered the body with a tarp before he got there. Bryan still saw the blood on the muzzles of his dogs that were waiting patiently in the yard and he entered my house uneasily, warily watching me and surely noticing the pained, resigned expression I bore. I had him sit down and then I told him what had happened. Bryan was inconsolable. He’d recalled them, he said, sitting in my living room with his head bowed. His eyes were wide with shock and his voice shook. He’d recalled them and they’d heard him, but they had their quarry and they would not be dissuaded. But they’re your dogs, I insisted. Aren’t you their master? And he just shook his head, vehemently, and then he stood and went to the door. He whispered that he was sorry. And that he’d remove them from the campgrounds. I watched him leave from the window. His dogs crowded around him and he started to pet one on the head in reflex and then he hesitated. He lifted his hand, stuffed it in his pocket, and continued walking without touching any of them. They followed him, uncomprehending. I regret calling them his ‘fucking dogs’. I think he feels this is his failure to bear. But I’m the one that told him to set them to patrolling the campsite, to chase down and kill the man with no shadow if they caught his scent. I’m the one that knows the folklore, the stories of how the guise or essence of another can be transferred through symbolic acts - a piece of clothing, an ointment, or in this case: a mark over the heart. I just didn’t make the connection. This possible outcome eluded me. Some of you have said I should try to outwit the man with no shadow. I am not nearly so clever. I know things, but I don’t always see the patterns, and I lack the cunning malice necessary for navigating the man with no shadow’s web. More of its strands are visible. Too late, however. It feels like I don’t notice them until they’re wrapped around my neck. I like getting things in the mail. I suspect that my kickstarter habit is in part fueled by the excitement of getting small packages and not being entirely sure what their contents are until they’re opened. For this reason, I am typically highly aware of whether the mailman has come today or not and what time he generally arrives. Yesterday, he sat at my mailbox for a good four minutes and I finally went out to his truck to see what the matter was. He nervously gave me a piece of mail that was not mine. A flyer, addressed to someone in town. He’d been delivering them all day, he said, and he knew he shouldn’t be doing this but he wanted me to see what it was people were receiving all across town. He likes us. We make his job easy when our big events happen by setting up a camp “post office” where he can dump all the packages of things people forgot and ordered off Amazon and then we handle distributing them to the campers that come to collect. He drove off before I could open the flyer. I read it, went inside, read it again. Maybe screamed some profanity for a little bit. Calmed down enough to take a photo, considered texting everyone I knew in outrage, realized that would be a terrible idea and sent it to the old sheriff instead. Here’s the photo of it. So. Initial thoughts. It’s a real nice flyer. Good use of stock art for the background. And I really just want to stab whoever made it in the neck except some of you have pointed out that maybe I shouldn’t resort to violence to silence my enemies and the old sheriff has also said something along those lines so I guess there’s nothing I can really do right now except be really fucking pissed off. The emblem in the lower left concerns me, however. I circled it. A black sheep. My current theory is that this is a calling-card of sorts and if it is, there’s a sinister message in it. A family member made this flyer. A “black sheep” who disagrees with us keeping the land within the family. This is a delicate situation, both in how to handle it and my own emotions. You see, there’s one person that comes to mind as the black sheep. While they haven’t been vocal, they’ve never been comfortable with the campground in its current state and they have a very strong outside influence to turn them against us. My brother’s wife is pregnant. He called me recently, from his car as he was running errands. He fears she will divorce him after the baby is born. She is afraid that their child will be pressured to carry on the family business. I adamantly denied that. It was a choice, I said. If she wasn’t interested, there were plenty of cousins and they had children of their own. We were a big family. Someone would step up. Then he confessed his own fear. Perhaps she should take their child and go, he said. Perhaps they should keep their child away from the campground because he wasn’t afraid that the child would feel obligated, he was afraid it would want to be the next owner of our land. If she asks for a divorce he said, his voice breaking, he wasn’t going to contest it. Or perhaps he could coerce me to sell the campground and then he could keep his wife and child. I haven’t decided what to do yet. This is just a hunch. It could be someone under the control of the man with no shadow and it doesn’t necessarily have to be family; just someone masquerading as them. I wish I were closer to my brother. I wish I could be certain. I’m a campground manager. I’m not sure who I can trust anymore. Even with the current sheriff… dealt with … someone is still trying to turn the town against me and they may be someone I love. I cannot even trust my own defenses for the man with no shadow has demonstrated that he can subvert them and turn them against me. At least I have the old sheriff. I think he’s safe. He resisted the master of the vanishing house, after all. And I just… need someone. I need just one person on my side. I’m not sure I can do this, otherwise. Read the full list of rules. Z tych, co miałam okazję: Lament (2016) - koreański slowburnowy horror, polecany mi przez Netflixa i przez fanów nowoczesnego koreańskiego kina. Akcja dzieje się w górskiej miejscowości, gdzie tajemnicza choroba zaczyna atakować mieszkańców. Rodzina policjanta wzywa szamana, by ten im pomógł przepędzić złego ducha i ocalić wieś przed tragedią. Przez pierwsze 2/3 filmu był dość przeciągający się film, przepleciony scenami obyczajowymi i koreańskim humorem - ale napięcie wynikające z dylematu w ostatniej 1/3 trzymało mnie na krawędzi krzesła jak jeszcze nic dotąd - komu tu mówi prawdę? Wspaniała i zapadająca w pamięć była scena nepalskich, ludowych egzorcyzmów, świeży powiew wśród znanych już chrześcijańskich formułek - od aktora grającego szamana biła taka energia, że fascynujące było oglądanie jego poczynań. Kinematografia też była przepiękna. Zakończenie filmu było wstrząsające, i już wiem, czemu ten film jest jedną z pereł w koronie obecnego koreańskiego kina - i dlaczego Lament jest uważany za koreańskie Hereditary. Jojo Rabbit (2019) - dużo Wesa Andersona i jego Moonrise Kingdom, połączonego z Życie jest piękne i Złodziejką książek. Nie trzeba chyba mówić o tym, jak przedstawiony jest świat nazistowskich Niemiec w oczach małego chłopca, chciałabym więc tylko dodać, że bardzo podobała mi się gra aktorska Sama Rockwella - który miał świetną chemię z Alfie Allenem i jego wręcz komiczną mimiką. Film jest komedią, ale moim zdaniem nie bagatelizuje zbrodni nazistowskich - są one jedynie na horyzoncie świata młodego chłopca, aż do ostatniej części filmu. Jojo jest uparty, zadziorny i ma cięty język - a przy tym jest niezwykle uroczy jak to dziecko. Podoba mi się zamysł Taiki Waititiego jako wyimaginowanego Hitlera, ale szczerze momentami było to trochę przesadzone. Ale dobrze mi się oglądało Jojo, gagi mnie śmieszyły, a druga połowa nieraz doprowadziła do łez. Podoba mi się to, jak artyści starają się przedstawiać brutalny świat z punktu widzenia dziecka. Snowpiercer (2013) - niska ocena na Filmwebie mnie odstraszyła, reżyser Parasite i Memories of Murder mnie zachęcił. I wiecie co? Mimo dziur logicznych, Snowpiercer był fajny. Dobrze go opisuje zdanie, że to jest "blockbuster, który jednocześnie aspiruje do czegoś więcej niż bycia blockbusterem". Bardzo ciekawy jest tu dysonans dwóch światów, gdzie widzisz amerykański film, z amerykańskimi aktorami i budżetem, nakręcony przez koreańskiego reżysera, który ma inny punkt widzenia niż zachodni reżyserowie, i nie boi się wtrącać scen obyczajowych, czy wręcz śmiesznych i groteskowych, w sceny akcji. Tilda Swinton? Fantastyczna, kocham ją. Tak samo Johna Hurta i Songa Kang-ho. Przyjemnie mnie zaskoczył Chris Evans, którego kojarzyłam tylko z roli Kapitana Ameryki, ale który sprawdził się w swojej roli, nie wprowadzając żadnego patetyzmu. To jest fajny akcyjniak, który też jest metaforą społeczeństwa i jego klasizmu, zwraca uwagę na problem globalnego ocieplenia i też miał niezwykle ciekawy koncept. Dobrze się to ogląda, jeśli się zignoruje błędy logiczne i skupi na parabolicznym aspekcie dzieła. The Lighthouse (2019) - świetny. Naprawdę świetny. To połączenie Lśnienia z Moby Dickiem, wykorzystujące mitologię grecką. Dwaj samotni latarnicy walczą ze sobą o dominację na małej wysepce, powoli popadając w szaleństwo. To też fantastyczny pojedynek aktorski między dwoma aktorami, między starym a młodym, między teatralnym a nowoczesnym, między wiedzącym a dążącym do wiedzy. Willem Defoe był genialny, Robert Pattison mu też nie odpuszczał. The Lighthouse jest horrorem-thrillerem w tym sensie, że nie używa typowych dla horrorów zagrywek. Terror tkwi tu w surrealistycznych wizjach, w paranoi, w ciągłym gaslightingu (słowo, które jest potrzebne w języku polskim), w niemożliwości odróżnienia prawdy od fałszu i co tkwi w Latarni. Muszę nadrobić Czarownicę tego samego reżysera i potem na jego filmy będę chodziła w ciemno. Na noże (2019) - James Bond jako detektyw rodem z powieści Agathy Christie. Obsada aktorska, z Jamie Lee Curtis i Toni Collette mnie super zachęciła - i było warto, bo fajne było przeniesienie dziewiętnastowiecznego murder-mystery w 21 wiek, z wykorzystaniem najnowszej technologii i lepszej komunikacji. Humor filmu mi odpowiadał, a twisty były sprytne - komentarz polityczno-społeczny też nie był nachalny, a każdej ze stron dostało się po równo. To niezły film. Śmieszny, zawiły, ale nie przekombinowany, z rodziną, która najpiękniej wychodzi na zdjęciu. Będę czekała na sequela. Kłamstewko (2019) - babcia umiera na raka. Rodzina decyduje się to ukrywać przed nią i pod pretekstem szybkiego wesela kuzyna imigranci ze Stanów i z Japonii wracają do Chin, zobaczyć się choć po raz ostatni z babcią. Ukazano tu zderzenie kultury Wschodu i Zachodu, gdzie w świecie drugiego taka sytuacja byłaby nie do pomyślenia i podważająca prawo do stanowienia o sobie - o co też główna bohaterka, grana przez Awkwafinę, cały czas pyta. Nadchodząca śmierć zamiast żałoby staje się tu celebracją życia, zderzają się ze sobą nuklearne rodziny imigranckie i liczna rodzina chińska oraz ich inne wartości, smutek jest tu połączony z komedią. Dostajemy okno, z którego możemy zobaczyć, jak wygląda świat chiński, chińskie ulice, oczami imigrantki, na której historii i doświadczeniach oparte jest dzieło. Film skłania do myślenia - czy człowiek należy do siebie, czy też jest on częścią rodziny, częścią większego kręgu? Bardzo się cieszę, że Kłamstewko dostało szansę na powstanie - choć dla amerykańskich producentów był zbyt chiński, a dla chińskich - zbyt amerykański i obaj domagali się białych aktorów w filmie o rodzinie chińskich emigrantów. Jeden ze zdecydowanie ciekawszych filmów roku i będę od tej pory śledziła twórczość Lulu Wang.

It's an insight into a rough Paris suburb, Montfermeil. The same district used by Victor Hugo as backdrop for his novels. While the motive is to increase social consciousness of the conditions in this concrete jungle, the director has also crafted an excellent thriller.
The film opens with scenes of Montfermei boys celebrating France's soccer victory, with waving of French flags. Then, we follow them around Montfermei which is not a nice place.
On a parallel track, we are introduced to unassuming policeman (Corporal Ruis) who joins a plainclothes detail in Montfermei.
Ruis is part of a roving patrol, demonstrating police 'presence' to the pimps, drug dealers and petty criminals. Ruis is told that a blowjob here costs 2 euros.
It gets complicated because of the presence of a Muslim Brotherhood chapter that is trying to provide moral leadership. And, a black mayor trying to be a player. Then, there's the kid who uses a drone for peeping.
Ruis' sergeant believes that he is the Law in the area. Using violence and coercion to get his way. Abusing teenage girls for illegally smoking. In general, believing like a pig.
The two narratives collide. The minor incident of a lion cub stolen from a circus, rapidly escalates into what Ruis calls 'the worst day of my life. br> Underlying the dangerous political and social instability in districts like this.
After a very tense and violent afternoon, the men return home where they are just sons and fathers.
Unfortunately, the next day, the neighborhood kids exact revenge with an insurrection. Ambushing the cops. The film ends on a cliff hanger.
All of the actors, young and old were excellent. Pacing was just right for a 100 minute show. Many background shots between the action scenes.
IMO, this is as good as it can be without the length of a mini-series.

Free Online Ne Zha zhi mo tong jiang shi jie

I speak very little Chinese, but I saw this film with my girlfriend (native speaker) at the cinema. She helped me understand plot points and certain dialogue that I was struggling with. This film is a great step in the right direction for the Chinese 3D animation industry, but in no way is it worthy of a 10/10. This film falls drastically short of the high bar set by films like those from Pixar.
The good:
-The landscapes and effects are bright and beautiful
-The voice acting is solid
-Some of the humor works even despite the language barrier
The bad:
-Most of the characters look like they're from different movies. The juxtaposition between young/transformed Nezha, his parents, the bad guy and the villagers just feels off. This film would benefit from more consistent character design.
-Some of the jokes are based more on Chinese meme culture, and as all of us know in the west, using memes in films is lazy pandering and sure to age very poorly.
-There are some emotional cliches regarding sacrifice and character reactions to events in the film. These things have been done a million times before and they are not exceptional here at the least.

All in all, I thought the film was decent. It was fun and looked a lot better than most 3D animation in China. But oh man are people riding the hype train on this one! It's really not a perfect or even great movie, but it is a step in the right direction. Hopefully Chinese films in the future will build off of this and produce films that are worthy of being called true classics, Chinese or worldwide.

It's a cartoon based on traditional Chinese myth, but I personally think it's as deep as Zootopia, in this movie, it discusses prejudices against stereotypes and self-identity under hatred, and made me think a lot about racial and gender discrimination.
"If fate isn't fair, fight it till the end." I cried all over the second half of this movie. As a minority of being Asian and woman in male-dominated tech industry, I can totally relate.

To be honest, I didn't expect the movie to be so good when I persuaded my husband to watch it with me. I only went there because I've heard so many good things about it. And it didn't fail me.
There were tears and laughs. There were creativity and some stereotype.
If I have to find some negativeness, the translation might be a bit difficult for people who don't understand Chinese since there were lots of Chinese culture in the movie. Ficha Técnica: Director: Takashi Shimizu Género: Terror Duración: 100 min Año en el que se estreno: 2002 Sinopsis: Una terrible maldición asecha a todo aquel que entre a la que solía ser la casa de la familia Saeki. La desconocida maldición se presenta en forma de un niño y una mujer que persiguen a los infortunados hasta quitarles la vida, consiguiendo que formen parte de la maldición y se manifiesten como tal. Opinión: Ju-On es la versión cinematográfica original de la historia que posteriormente fue reestrenada en Norteamérica bajo el nombre de La Maldición ( The Grudge) cuya trama giraba en torno a una fuerte maldición que consume a todo aquel que tenga la mala suerte de cruzarse con ella. Anteriormente escribí sobre la secuela norteamericana The Grudge 2 y de cómo termino siendo una mera sombra de su antecesor que acabo con los ánimos de muchos fanáticos interesados en la historia. Después de aquella gran decepción, que aun causa suspiros de melancolía, pensé que sería buena idea ver la  cinta que dio origen a la encantadora doncella reptante y al niño aullador de ojos color azabache. Tal vez así reviviría los buenos momentos y eliminaría el mal sabor que dejo la segunda parte. Pero lo que yo pensaba era la primera parte japonesa en realidad resulto ser una versión rehecha de las cintas originales  para ser proyectada en las salas de cine. Esta versión se extendió hacia América gracias a la popularidad de la cinta y años después dio origen a la versión que conoce la mayoría bajo el nombre de La Maldición. Tal vez no esté siendo muy claro al respecto; verán las primeras dos cintas de Ju-On fueron hechas para ser comercializadas solo en video, en lo que la industria cinematográfica cataloga como “ V-Cinema “. Las películas tomaron popularidad  y el director Takashi Shimizu decidió filmar una versión destinada a ser reproducida en las salas de cine. Esta misma versión fue la que se comercializo como la primera parte y se distribuyo a los demás países. Muchas son las personas que mencionaron que la versión japonesa era mucho mejor que la versión a la norteamericana, en parte lo creí, pues en más de una ocasión los directores hollywoodenses han deshecho historias de de terror japonesas, coreanas y tailandesas que tenían potencial para ser buenas propuestas para el género.  Sin embargo hay un detalle primordial en este apartado; Takashi Shimizu, el director y creador de las versiones originales, es el mismo que se encargo de dirigir el remake norteamericano, por lo que tirarle el problema a esta “tropicalización” del cine sería un error. La película de  Ju-On, en comparación con la versión norteamericana, tiene enormes carencias de género y múltiples vacíos que degradan la experiencia del terror psicológico. Por supuesto  hay varios factores que deben abordarse; el presupuesto de la película por ejemplo, pues aunque esta había tenido popularidad entre los entusiastas del genero, aun se encontraba con limitantes monetarias. Producir una película para cine es mucho más costoso que una destinada a ser vendida por unidades, por lo que esta carencia se ve reflejada en la calidad la cinta. El remake, al ser parte de la industria cinematografía norteamericana contaba con mucho más presupuesto y tenía acceso a efectos especiales que doto a la historia de elementos tétricos complejos y estéticos. Posiblemente los años que pasaron antes de que se realizara el remake ayudaron al director a pensar mejores  formas de desarrollar los sustos, lo cual nuevamente le da un plus a la versión americana, pero creo que lo más importante aquí es que cualquiera que haya visto La Maldición sabrá de antemano todos los sustos que van a ocurrir y la manera en la que van a hacerlo, lo cual anula por completo la capacidad de sobresalto en el espectador si se dispone a ver la versión cinematográfica japonesa. En cuanto a narrativa, sentí que la historia avanzaba con lentitud. Tal vez la ausencia de énfasis en los hechos es lo que la hacía tan monótona, tal vez la inexpresividad de los personajes haya sido la causante de tanto aburrimiento, o quizá el tiempo en el que se creaba tensión era deficiente como para conseguir crear un ambiente tétrico. Los sustos estaban ahí, pero algo faltaba, y no eran los efectos especiales, era una falta de esencia, era una trama que por alguna razón parecía estar limitando su potencial. Creo que la forma más clara de enfatizar este aspecto es ver los primeros cortometrajesde Takashi Shimizu, titulados Katasumi ( En un Rincon) y 4444444444. En tan solo 3 minutos son capaces de  crear una atmósfera tétrica que consigue envolver al espectador en el misterio del ambiente y en los elementos paranormales que rondan en ella. Lo destacable es que todo sucede bajo la luz del día, sin el uso de efectos especiales y con un presupuesto mínimo, destacando que lo importante en si es la composición. Katasumi 4444444444 Con toda seguridad puedo afirmar que ambos cortos tienen mayor composición que toda la película de Ju-On. Los sustos de la película ocurren después de un tiempo prolongado y pese a que utilizan una mayor cantidad de elementos ambientales continúan luciendo carentes del énfasis necesario para resultar sobrecogedores. Ju-On  es narrada en capítulos, cada uno estelarizado por un personaje que se encuentra perseguido por la maldición. Es una forma de narración que se presta para múltiples líneas de argumento y conexiones entre personajes, crea la posibilidad de tener misterio y dinamismo si se usan adecuadamente. Pero el uso que se le dio termino por conseguir lo contrario en la película;  una historia separada en la que los personajes parecen estar en escena para morir sin aportar algo relevante ¿De qué sirve tener tantos personajes si solo unos cuantos cumplen con un propósito para la historia? Hay un error grave para la narrativa de la película y consta de un vació en la trama en el que no se explica el porqué del asesinato. Se muestra imágenes donde podemos darnos cuenta que el padre de familia mato a emm… su familia… pero nunca nos da el motivo de semejante atrocidad. Pensaran que se trata de un detalle banal, pero afecta de gran manera la percepción de la historia, más cuando hablamos de que la maldición se crea a partir de este hecho. Entre todas las escenas aburridamente largas hay unas cuantas divertidas: Como la de Kayako visión, donde al colocar las manos igual que en la imagen uno puede ver a Kayako en el espejo en lugar su propio reflejo. El ataque de los gatos negros (¿Puedes contar cuántos gatos son de verdad? ) Una singular  visita nocturna estelarizada por Kayako y Toshio. Y el ataque de las colegialas zombi (*Inserte comentarios lascivos en este apartado*) Para mi pesar la versión cinematográfica original de La Maldición resulto ser abrumadoramente aburrida y poco atractiva. Aun estoy en duda si hubiera tenido una opinión diferente al ver primero esta versión en lugar de la norteamericana (creo que por lo menos así le daría mayor aprecio a los sustos), pero prefiero dar una opinión basada en lo que vi, y lo que vi fue una hora con cuarenta minutos de sustos incompletos con personajes olvidables y una narrativa que omite detalles importantes de la historia. Nuevamente me gustaría darle la oportunidad a las cintas originales y evitar emitir una generalización universal sobre cuál de las versiones es mejor hasta verlas todas. Después de todo aun existen detalles a tratar y sería injusto  emitir un juicio crítico sin haberlas visto todas. Buscare en los recónditos de internet alguna forma de ver las primeras dos partes originales que salieron solo en Japón. Deséenme suerte. I'm a fan of The Grudge(2004) it's actually the scariest movie I've seen.I think Kayako Saeki is the best spirit/ghost in horror movies,she's slow yet you can't escape her,you don't really know how she kills her victims and she's like a virus who keeps moving on without being able to stop unfortunately the case is different,jumpscares are overused but in the 2004 version the scariest scenes for me didn't involve any 's such a shame to see that it's fallen into this horror movie trend today of overusing Raimi also changed the story and made it into more of a zombie type but i guess every zombie makes the weird noise that Kayako makes even though it was explained in the 2004 that Sam Raimi also got rid of Toshio and added another creepy girl with long very talented cast which is why I'm so disappointed though the policewoman needs to learn how to hold a gun.I wouldn't recommend this if you're a fan of the older movies,better to just rewatch them.
